First Aid Training in Congo-Brazzaville

December 26, 2022

The French Red Cross through the Global First Aid Reference Centre are currently carrying out a project to “Strengthen the capacities of the Congolese Red Cross for a sustainable improvement of the resilience of the Pool populations” in Congo. This project, financed by the European Union, started in February 2020 and is part of the desire to respond to the development needs of First Aid in the country. As a result, one of the objectives of this project is to improve the health of the population of the Pool department in a sustainable way by implementing the First Aid and community-based health approach, in particular through the training of the Congolese Red Cross.

Just one year ago, a volunteer trainer of the Global First Aid Reference Centre went to Congo Brazzaville with the aim of carrying out a study of the needs in terms of first aid training.  Following this study, two trainers went to Congo for a fortnight in November 2022 to provide ongoing training and to train 13 new First Aid trainers.

The initial training of the First Aid trainers is based on the First Aid Guide for Africa developed by the Belgian Red Cross. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation with cardiac massage was a highlight of the training as it was eagerly awaited by the participants.

The objective of harmonising first aid training in the country was initiated thanks to the participation of volunteers from different regions of the country (Pool, Cuvette, Kouilou, Brazzaville, Pointe Noire, Bouenza and Niari)

The new trainers are now ready to roll out training to the population. The team at the centre salute the investment of each one.

A great future prospect for First Aid in Congo Brazzaville.
