The Senegalese Red Cross announced their first aid policy after an assembly that was held in Thies from 23 to 30 October 2022.
Indeed, in order to strengthen the management tools of first aid training, the Senegalese Red Cross gathered during 6 days the members of the first aid training pool with instructors in order to reflect on the drafting of a first aid policy that takes into account the evolution in the field but also the latest recommendations.
This workshop was held with the financial support of the first aid project of the Belgian Red Cross Flemish Community and the ICRC in Dakar.
General objective: to redefine the national first aid policy of the Senegalese Red Cross
Specific objectives
- To design and validate the first aid training programmes and curricula;
- To design and validate the different types of certification of diplomas;
- To share good practices, tools and innovations to develop first aid knowledge in accordance with the recommendations of the Global First Aid Reference Centre and the Ministry of Interior (MINT);
- Explore and agree on how to share knowledge between First Aid managers in the departments and worldwide;
- Work on management tools (sales prices of services, monitoring of turnover, creation and monitoring of a client base);
- Work on marketing tools (by-products, 4Ps, promotion of services in the media, flyers, etc.)
- Promote initial and ongoing training for instructors and monitors in order to move towards a teaching approach based on objectives;
- Update the texts governing first aid training.
- Start the process of obtaining the International First Aid Attestation (IFAA).
the workshop was organised with 4 days of exchange on all the issues related to the management of first aid (type of training, certification, marketing, first aid activities in the field, identification etc.)
After the discussion, a restricted committee continued the work in order to write the first draft of the document which outlines the policy and the annexes which will complete the final document.
