data on first aid from red cross red crescent national societies

Surveys

While we’re not a statistical institute, we collect information through our National Societies on first aid with  regards to:

  • their activities and the the context where they are…
  • the accidents people from the general public have to deal with…

We also conduct survey at regional level when there is a need (example: EMS in Europe zone).

In 2013 and 2015, the GFARC issued globally an advocacy report on “First Aid for a safer future”. This report was welcomed by the National Societies, and very useful for calling decision-makers and authorities to take action to make “first aid for all” a reality.

Every three years, in order to update the data and have an accurate overview of first aid education in the world, GFARC produces a “Global Survey on First Aid Education to gather information from all the Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies. The questions tackle the following main subjects:

  • First aid in your national context
  • First aid education: programmes and number of people reached
  • Automated external defibrillation (AED)

Other interesting topics are the regional and national statistics for willingness to act, number of cardiac arrests or number of people saved which can be available in your country. The World Health Organization has fact sheets available and global datas on domestic accidents and violence, that can be used.

Contribute to improve our data by sending first aid figures for your country!
