Reviewers for the first aid guidelines

Our mission is promoting, disseminating and advocating for the international implementation of evidence-informed first aid training, using transparent evaluation and consensus summary of scientific data. Our Guidelines Task Force remains a central part of that process. Working in partnership with the Steering committee of the guidelines, the evidence-reviewers Task Force bring together clinical, education and scientific experts from around the world to consider scientific evidence and produce recommendations as well as implementation and context considerations for the benefit of the RC/RC first aid programmers.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Evidence-Reviewers

  • Formulate and prioritize research questions
  • Review of studies identified for inclusion
  • Generate international consensus and recommendations for the publication
  • Identification and prioritization of knowledge gaps
  • Mentor members participating in the work of the guidelines topic and animate working group if needed
  • Assist to the meetings task-force
  • Respond to public commentary of National societies and participate in implementation meeting

Time and Effort Commitment

Task Force Members are expected to commit 4-6 hours per month to deliver on the core business of the evidence-reviewer. The work of the evidence-reviewer is undertaken predominantly by bi-monthly webinars supplemented eventually by an annual face-to-face meeting.

Financial support

The role of evidence-reviewer is unpaid but can also be possible through staff on loan process agreed with a National Society or relevant institution.

Qualifications:

  • Expertise in subject areas relevant to the guidelines
  • Previous experience as an evidence reviewer/worksheet author
  • Working knowledge of evidence evaluation methodologies
  • Be knowledgeable of the work of ILCOR, ERC, Cebap and American Scientific Advisory Council
  • Ability to communicate in written and spoken English
  • Impartial and objective decision-making
  • Ability to work as a team member and build consensus
  • Ability to manage potential or perceived conflict of interest and bias
  • Ability to consistently meet deadlines
  • Ability to mentor when leading a group
