Ten years ceremony : looking back on our support

December 2, 2022

The Global First Aid Reference Centre organized a small celebration for its 10th anniversary at the Head Quarters of the French Red Cross. Inspiring speeches were given for the occasion by the President of the French Red Cross, Philippe DA COSTA who insisted on the importance of first aid. He explained that as our vulnerabilities increase, we must respond by strengthening our capacity to help. That more than 160 years after the Battle of Solferino, the mouvement still maintain this spirit of humanity, this desire to save and to learn how to save.

When we treat a wound, when we check the breath, when we lay down a victim, we proclaim by our actions that in all circumstances the suffering of Man is intolerable.

– Philippe DA COSTA

Also the Director for Health and Care Department of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Crescent Societies (IFRC), Petra KHOURY gave a speech on the IFRC’s engagement and commitment towards first aid. She highlighted that first aid services contribute to social cohesion in times of emergencies and National societies use their first aid expertise to act in their role as auxiliaries to public authorities.

We recognize and value the work of GFARC, and its team’s tireless efforts in reducing the number of deaths and severity of injuries and improving the resilience of people and communities through First Aid. – Petra KHOURY

The IFRC along with National societies are the world’s leading trainer and provider of first aid. Our need to continue our work and to implment the strategy and vision for firts aid for 2030 were strongly advised.

The ceremony also included gifts for participants, from the International operations department, who  answerd a quiz on the GFARC with the highest score. You can try the quiz here to test your knowledge too !

In our journey that started in 2012, the Global First Aid Reference Centre was working to achieve a great aim of reducing the suffering of communities. Our objective is still valid now more than ever and our will to continue is even stronger. We are looking forward to the next 10 years and achieve greater results worldwide.
