Trainer of trainers course for the Romanian Red Cross

August 10, 2023

The Romanian Red Cross, with the collaboration of the Global First Aid Reference Centre, organized two sessions of Training of Trainers in First Aid course in order to enhance Trainers of Trainers knowledge, skills and learner centered educational approach. The first one was held in Bucharest from June 7 to 11, and the second one from June 28 to July 2 in Oradea.

As part of a local capacity building for effective preparedness and response strategy in the Romanian, Moldavian and Ukrainian region, the training included 3 Master Educators as facilitators for each session (Jeffrey Pellegrino, Shawky Amine Eddine, and Marcus Aust for the first session, and Hugo Surprenant, Kathy Sampson and Nadiia Iamnenko for the second one), as well as around 50 participants from across Romania and some observers from the Republic of Moldavia. Despite the difficulties of traveling, our Master Educator Nadia was even able to travel from Ukraine!

Strengthening the capacity of Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies in First Aid Education through ToT courses

In order to prepare the training as best as possible, a few online meetings were held upstream between the facilitation team to share tasks and responsibilities, but also to get to know each other and break the ice.

As regards the training itself, it was conducting using learner-centered approaches and tools aligned with the IFRC Training of Trainer facilitation guide, with local adaptation.

The participants were appreciative of the individual feedback and micro-teaching their received on their lesson plan. The training progressed as planned and the objectives were met as the participants were well experienced and participated actively to the sessions training by sharing good practices.  The evaluation lesson, that was adapted to three different levels – course, new trainer, and basic first aid skills – was a success as the participants passed the training and can now proceed to conduct First Aid Trainers courses in their National Society. Congratulations!

Thanks to the involvement of the Romanian Red Cross team, the Master Educators, the Centre, and all participants, the sessions were very successful!
