Celebrating World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2023

April 26, 2023

On the 28th of April each year, we celebrate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Created in 2003 by the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations agency whose mandate is to advocate and advance social justice and internationally recognized human and labor rights, this world day aims at raising awareness for the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases at work globally.

This year, the 2023 World Day for Safety and Health at Work will explore the topic of a safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work, adopted in June 2022 by the International Labour Organization during the International Labour Conference. This followed the fact that workers are exposed to many risks in the workplace, and that millions of them lose their lives each year due to occupational accidents and diseases, while many more suffer from work-related injuries.

Here is an overview with some global labor key numbers and data which represent this critical situation:

In order to address this major human, social and economic challenge, the International Federation’s First Aid Vision 2030, adopted in June 2022, identified First Aid in the Workplace as one of its six priorities for action. Indeed, the first aid training of the employees is crucial to ensure efficient safety management in the workplace and avoid accidents and fatal injuries.

With more than 20 million people trained every year in first aid, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is the world’s leading first aid provider.  It is a priority for the GFARC to globally promote and raise awareness about First Aid in the Workplace.

Together, let’s promote First Aid in the Workplace!

We wish you safe and healthy work!
