In 2024, the field of First Aid faced significant challenges: the European First Aid Network Steering Committee organised a one-day online event. More than 80 participants from over 30 predominantly European National Societies gathered to exchange ideas and discuss pressing issues.

The theme of this year’s event, held on September the 18th, was “First Aid in a Challenging World”. Twelve leading experts covered a range of topics, including: The implementation of artificial intelligence in First Aid and its ethical and developmental implications, new methods for sharing best practices, such as Communities of Practice, the evolving role of First Aid in diverse contexts, updates on International First Aid, Resuscitation, and Education Guidelines, insights into the International First Aid Attestation, the development of updated Trainer of Trainers manuals and exchange of best practices across National Societies.

Success and Forward Momentum

The event received overwhelmingly positive feedback, with participants praising the knowledge shared and the collaborative atmosphere. International experts presented insights and experiences aimed at enhancing First Aid education and practical application. The event also emphasised the importance of research to continuously improve the quality of First Aid education, setting a strong foundation for future developments.

First Aid coordinators reaffirmed their commitment to building First Aid skills among the general population. This shared goal underscores the need for innovative approaches and collaboration within the network.

Leadership Transition and Plans for 2025

The meeting also marked a leadership transition within the European First Aid Network Steering Committee. A new member from Romania was elected, strengthening the six-member team. In the year 2025, FAEEN SC is planning to organize a face to face meeting, ensuring continued momentum for the network’s initiatives.

This year’s event underscored the importance of collective efforts and forward-thinking strategies in overcoming challenges and advancing First Aid education across Europe and beyond.
