The importance of first aid in Tajikistan.

Snake bite

A teenager from “Sayod” village of Sangvor /Tavildara district was bitten on the head by a poisonous snake in the bathhouse. His mother was extremely shocked. She did not know how to help her son. The only thing she could do was to ask community volunteers, UsmanovaSabokhat, and SaidovaMavluda in her village for help. These volunteers were trained by the Land Rover funded CBHFA project. The project was implemented by the Tajikistan Red Crescent Society. The 2 volunteers went immediately to give first aid to the teenager. They put a cold cloth and  a bandage tightly round the snake bite.. They carried the young boy casualty to a primary medical care centre in the village. As a result, the boy survives and leads a normal life.

Plough Accident

farmer from “Khur” village of Sangvor/Tavildara district was injured when he was ploughing his plot. His leg was stuck in the electric plough. As a result his leg was fractured in two places with many jagged wounds. Luckily he was working alongside his neighbor, EshonovJurabek who has been trained as community volunteer by the Land Rover funded CBHFA project implemented in Tajikistan. First of all, the volunteer stopped the heavy bleeding, above the fracture he stiffly put a bandage, fixed the fractures with splints which he made from the improvised material. The volunteer then carried the injured person on a blanket to the vehicle which transported the injured person to a medical facility at the centre of the district. Due to the limited capacity of the district hospital, the injured farmer was referred to a National hospital in Dushanbe. Both the farmer’s life and  injured leg were saved. Thanks to the community volunteer’s correct and timely actions.

School accident

School boy, SaidminojuddinSaidanvar- a pupil from a primary school  fell down from the stairs in the school and fractured his forearm during the break. Teachers decided to send him to a medical facility. However a girl 10th grade student, Safarova Farishta who witnessed the accident, stopped the teachers. She told them that the fracture should be fixed first and only after that, the injured person could be sent to a medical facility. This girl student participated at a first aid information session. She learnt what to do in the case of fracture. She provided first aid to the injured boy by fixing the fracture. Only then the injured boy was sent to a medical facility..
