Celebrating 10 years of the centre

November 22, 2022

” It’s been a decade since we were here for you and we hope we’ll be sharing many more years. Your dedication to first aid is what keeps us going; we couldn’t have done it without YOU !”

We are extremely happy to announce that 2022 is the 10th year since the establishement of the Global First Aid Reference Centre (GFARC) and for providing global first aid support to all Red Cross / Red Crescent National Societies. The European Centre for First Aid Education became global in 2012 to answer growing demands in our field. It became a ‘centre of excellence’ of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) hosted by the French Red Cross

Our ultimate objectives continue to be active and reduce the number of deaths and the severity of injuries as well as to make people and communities more resilient. First aid has always been at the core of multiple services provided by National societies of the Red Cross and Red Crescent movement.  It is now more than ever clear that despite all precautions, accidents might happen and only well-trained individuals can  ensure the safety of everyone. For this reason, first aid is a key element of responding to the current and future needs of the world

In our 10th anniversary and this year, a new First Aid Policy and First Aid Vision for 2030 were adopted to achieve an egagement towards a renewed commitment to provide first aid services at the level of all 192 National Societies.  Over the past 10 years, the IFRC network has collectively reached more than 200 million people through first aid education, training, and services at the community level. First aid enables National societies to access communities, including those in harder to reach urban and rural settings. Our journey continues and we are very excited to work on a road map based on the operational framework agreed upon.

In this special occasion, we would like to particulary thank all National societies for their great collaboration. We want also to higlight the engagement and mutual support between our distance collaborators, volunteers, our network and partners.

You can read below some testimonies  from our partners and National Societies who worked with the GFARC from the very begining !
