From July 5 to 9, 2025, the IFRC Global First Aid Reference Centre (GFARC), in collaboration with the French Red Cross and the Monaco Red Cross, hosted a five-day Level C Trainer of Trainers (ToT) course in Amman, Jordan. This training brought together a select group of experienced First Aid trainers from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) to strengthen the quality and sustainability of First Aid education in the WestBank.
As part of an ongoing initiative to align national First Aid training practices with international standards, this Level C ToT course marks a significant milestone. Over the past year, the PRCS with support from the French Red Cross and GFARC has developed new Level B and Level C curricula. This course was designed to operationalize that work by equipping trainers with the pedagogical tools and technical frameworks to build capacity across their National Society.
Guided by Master Educators Rolla Mansour and Osama Boubas, the training followed GFARC’s Trainer of Trainers facilitation methodology, adapted to the local context and delivered entirely in Arabic. It emphasized participatory, learner-centred approaches and practical exercises, including microteaching sessions and real-time facilitation practice. Candidates also prepared in advance by completing pre-course assignments such as lesson planning and technical reading.
Participants were selected based on stringent criteria, including advanced First Aid knowledge, educational experience, and active involvement in the national First Aid programme. The training succeeded in creating a highly motivated and collaborative learning environment. The experience also reinforced the value of peer support and the importance of context-sensitive adaptation of global frameworks.
GFARC and partner National Societies will continue to provide mentorship and technical support to ensure these trainers are fully equipped to deliver high-impact First Aid education. This training reflects not only the strength of regional collaboration but also the commitment of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement to empowering communities through life-saving knowledge. With such initiatives, we are investing in resilient systems and local expertise that will contribute to saving lives for years to come.
