The GFARC has gathered 12 first aid instructors from 6 Caribbean National Societies from the 25th to the 29th of November to scale them up as trainers of trainers (level C trainers). Hosted in Antigua and Barbuda, the one-week training was facilitated by two Master Educators from the American Red Cross and the Canadian Red Cross. All along the week, the participants had the opportunity to raise their technical and pedagogical capacities and gain the autonomy and confidence needed to conduct effective training of trainers. It was particularly the case during the two days dedicated to microteachings, when the participants demonstrated their wide ranges of teaching skills, while tackling essential subjects such as conflict resolution, assessment and evaluation, coaching and individual check-in.
At the same time, the training opened up new avenues for discussions, fuelling reflection over the development of Caribbean first aid standards and curricula, in line with the GFARC Americas team and the Caribbean NS’ efforts in creating regionally contextualized first aid manuals and guides, as part of the Ready 360 / 3 Océans programme. Back in their territories, the trainers of trainers will have the capacity to train first aid instructors, enhancing local capacities to reply to life-threatening events.
In the end, this successful Training of Trainers was one of the first to be set up with the new level C curriculum developed during and after the Master Educators meeting in Paris in October 2023.
