The Red Cross and Red Crescent Research Consortium (RC3) held its 6th Annual Global Research Workshop in Seoul, hosted by the Asia Pacific Disaster Resilience Centre and the Korean Red Cross. This event brought together experts from across the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to discuss and advance research initiatives that support the development of more resilient communities.

Founded in 2019, RC3 is a collaborative network that connects experts from National Societies, the IFRC and ICRC. The consortium aims to foster data-driven research in the humanitarian field to support community-focused goals in line with the strategic frameworks of the IFRC and ICRC. RC3 helps build safer, more resilient communities through the creation of accessible research tools, knowledge sharing and resource optimization.

GFARC’s Objectives and Contributions
GFARC actively participated in the workshop with the following objectives:
  • Presenting and promoting its research work, particularly the methodology behind the International First Aid, Resuscitation and Education Recommendations.
  • Sharing the First Aid Vision 2030, which emphasizes research, evidence, and evaluation, and exploring how RC3 members can contribute to this vision.
  • Strengthening connections with RC3 members and exploring collaborative opportunities to make research more accessible, especially in low resources countries.
  • Discussing specific research opportunities related to climate change and first aid.
Key Outcomes of the Workshop

The workshop resulted in several key outcomes:

  • The establishment of the RC3 Plan of Action for 2024-2025, including next steps, assigned responsibilities, and a timeline for implementation.
  • Creation of working groups to initiate collective research projects for 2025-2026.
  • Selection of the next RC3 Steering Committee.
  • A workshop on valorizing research and publications to enhance the visibility of RC3’s work.
  • Valuable feedback from RC3 members on GFARC’s research activities, as well as specific research opportunities that will be incorporated into GFARC’s upcoming research action plan.
Looking Ahead

The workshop was a great success in advancing the RC3’s goals and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders in the humanitarian research community. Moving forward, the network will continue to work on strengthening partnerships, promoting research on critical issues like climate change, migration, health and first aid, and ensuring that valuable research tools are accessible to all National Societies.
