Introduction course, for a certified, completed training, contact your National Society. By 2050, an estimated 2 billion people will be over the age of 60 years old – for the first time, the majority of people can expect to live well into old age. However, as we age, the risk for certain accidents and injuries may increase. For example, falls are a major cause of injury in those over the age of 65, accounting for an estimated 646 000 deaths per year (World Health Organisation, 2018).This 4-hour self-paced course introduces the key concepts and first aid techniques needed to address emergency situations in older people, including falls, heart attacks, and strokes. The course also teaches protective measures and key adaptations necessary for the delivery of first aid in the context of an infectious disease outbreak, such as COVID-19.
