Enhancing First Aid Expertise of the Moroccan Red Crescent

May 26, 2025 | News

The Global First Aid Reference Centre with the support of the French Red Cross, organised in Marrakech from January 25 to February a training of trainers of trainers  for the Moroccan Red Crescent. This course is designed to prepare experienced first aid trainers for the role of Trainer of Trainers (ToT) while aligning with current international guidelines.

Following the September 8, 2023 earthquake, which significantly impacted the rural regions around Marrakech, the Moroccan Red Crescent, in partnership with the French Red Cross, has developed a plan to enhance skills in response to the increasing demand for first aid among the population. This training was identified as a key component of this strategy, and the GFARC was naturally invited to contribute to its organization, ensuring that the acquired skills are cascaded down to lower levels, thereby improving public access to first aid.

Over five days, the participants alternated between theoretical sessions, role-playing and practical exercises. The emphasis was placed on learning teaching techniques adapted to different audiences, assessing skills in accordance with IFRC international standards, and the overall management of a training course. The objective was not only to impart scientific first aid knowledge but also to equip trainers with the pedagogical tools necessary for effective dissemination. To finalize their certification, the newly trained level C trainers must first conduct a teaching experience, a Training for Trainers (level B) course, within the next six months and submit a report on this experience to GFARC. Once officially certified, they will be enabled by the Moroccan Red Crescent to expand first aid training across the country, strengthening community resilience in emergency situations.
